Rugby History Made in Las Vegas: Super League Takes the Stage in the U.S.
A new chapter was written in English rugby history as Wigan Warriors and Warrington Wolves faced off in the first-ever Super League match held in the United States. The game took place at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, where Wigan Warriors claimed a 48-24 victory.
Wigan dominated the first half with scores from Tyler Dupree, Abbas Miski, Bevan French, and Harry Smith, bringing the score to 24-0. In the second half, Jai Field, Jake Wardle, Luke Thompson, and Liam Marshall added to the lead. Adam Keighran also contributed significantly with successful conversion kicks.
Warrington Wolves managed to score in the final minutes with efforts from Arron Lindop, James Harrison, Matt Dufty, and Matty Ashton, but they couldn't close the gap, and Wigan maintained control to secure the win.
Wigan head coach Matt Peet expressed pride in his team’s performance on such a big stage, while Warrington coach Sam Burgess pointed out defensive shortcomings and emphasized the need for greater resilience in high-profile matches.
This encounter marked the first time in the 28-year history of the Super League that a match was played in the U.S. It was part of a larger rugby festival featuring four games, designed to boost the sport’s international reach and popularity.
Warrington captain George Williams thanked the fans who traveled to Las Vegas and admitted the team fell short of expectations.
This historic event stands as more than just a game—it represents a broader ambition to elevate English rugby clubs onto the global stage.
