USA Begins Revoking Visas of Chinese Students

The U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on May 28, 2025, that the U.S. has begun revoking visas of Chinese students. This has been especially done for those connected with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) or those studying sensitive areas of study. The U.S. government defends this as a measure taken in order to protect national security and prevent theft of technology.

There are approximately 277,000 Chinese students in America, and the decision will have academic and monetary implications on American educational institutions. The students already existing in major sectors such as technology and engineering will be directly affected. The U.S. also plans to more thoroughly scrutinize student applications from Hong Kong and China.

The Chinese government condemned the U.S. move strongly, calling it an ideological move. China's Foreign Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning said that the move is detrimental to the international credibility of the U.S. and hurts cultural exchange.

As a result of these events, countries like Australia have been willing to accept Chinese students affected by the U.S. policy. However, challenges like housing deficit and admission limits may discourage full use of this process. Other students are also pursuing additional studies in Europe, the UK, and other Asian countries.

This policy of the U.S. will be capable of significantly influencing cross-national scholarship cooperation and student mobility, bringing about immense changes in the global academic environment
