Verstappen Dominates Azerbaijan GP Amid Surprising Podium Results
The 2025 Formula 1 season’s thrilling Azerbaijan Grand Prix concluded with an impressive performance from Max Verstappen. The Red Bull driver started the race from pole position, led almost every lap, and secured his second consecutive victory of the season, marking his 67th career Grand Prix win. Verstappen also set the fastest lap of the race, achieving the rare “Grand Chelem.”
The opening laps, however, brought disappointment for championship leader Oscar Piastri. The McLaren driver made a mistake at the start and locked up at Turn 5, crashing into the wall and retiring from the race. This early incident ended Piastri’s 34-race points streak and reduced his lead over teammate Lando Norris to just 25 points.
Another notable story came from Carlos Sainz, who claimed third place with the Williams team. This marked Sainz’s first podium with Williams and the team’s first full-distance podium since 2017.
Mercedes driver George Russell finished in second place, earning valuable points for his team and narrowing the gap with McLaren, keeping the championship battle intense.
For McLaren, the remainder of the season is crucial. The team will now focus on the upcoming Singapore Grand Prix, scheduled for October 5, 2025, where fans will watch closely to see if Piastri can bounce back.
The Azerbaijan Grand Prix once again highlighted the competitiveness of this season and reminded fans that surprises can happen at any moment.
